If you’ve driven through the intersection of State Route 28 and State Route 431 recently, you’ve likely noticed that progress continues on the Gateway Roundabout Improvement Project, one of the most visible community enhancement efforts currently underway in Incline Village.
As a primary entrance to North Lake Tahoe, the Gateway Roundabout serves as much more than a transportation feature. It is the community’s first impression, a landmark that reflects the natural beauty of the region, and a symbol of what can be accomplished through collaboration between public agencies, local organizations, businesses, and community members.

Community Momentum Continues to Build
The Gateway Roundabout Improvement Project continues to gain momentum through the leadership of the Incline Village Crystal Bay Community & Business Association (IVCBA) and its Incline Village Main Street Program. The project represents years of planning, fundraising, community engagement, and coordination among numerous stakeholders who share a vision of creating a more welcoming gateway into Incline Village.
Building upon the success of the existing roundabout, the planned improvements will enhance both the visual character and long-term sustainability of this highly visible community landmark.

What Improvements Are Planned?
The project includes several enhancements designed to improve both aesthetics and long-term functionality, including:
- Permanent irrigation systems to support healthy, sustainable landscaping
- Tahoe-appropriate plantings selected for local climate conditions
- Native trees and shrubs that provide year-round visual interest
- Iconic granite boulders that reflect the character of the Tahoe Basin
- Enhanced landscape mounding to create a stronger visual presence
- Repositioned bronze wildlife sculptures for improved visibility and protection
- Infrastructure upgrades that support long-term maintenance and sustainability
Together, these improvements will create a memorable sense of arrival while preserving the natural beauty and mountain character that makes Incline Village/Crystal Bay unique.
A Collaborative Community Effort
One of the most remarkable aspects of the Gateway Roundabout Improvement Project is the broad coalition of organizations, agencies, businesses, donors, and volunteers who have contributed to moving the vision forward. Key partners include the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT), Washoe County, Incline Village General Improvement District (IVGID), Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA), IVCBA, and numerous community supporters.
Projects within the Tahoe Basin require extensive coordination among regulatory agencies, utility providers, community organizations, contractors, and design professionals. The Gateway Roundabout project demonstrates what can be achieved when a community comes together around a shared vision and invests in its future.
Lefrancois Engineering’s Role
As Prime Consultant and Project Manager, Lefrancois Engineering has coordinated engineering, landscape architecture, permitting, agency review, utility coordination, design support, and project implementation efforts necessary to advance the Gateway Roundabout Improvements.
Our team has worked closely with project stakeholders to navigate approvals, develop practical engineering solutions, and help move the project from concept toward construction. We are honored to contribute to a project that will leave a lasting positive impact on the Incline Village community and its visitors for years to come.
